בס"ד Chani's Yahrzeit is coming up in the next couple of weeks and will be on Sunday, the 12th of Sivan, June 19. It is hard to believe that a year has already gone by since Chani's passing. There is almost no day that goes by without Chani being on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts.
We are commemorating the Yahrzeit, with a few initiatives:
Over the next week and a half, please join us in a special Parent-Child learning project as we make a Siyum together of Pirkei Avot. We feel that by sitting and learning Torah values with our children, and enjoying quality time with our children, it is an ideal way of remembering Chani, appreciating our children and recognizing the gift that Hakadosh Baruch Hu has given us. The lessons and ideals of Pirkei Avot are very in line with the lessons Chani taught us. Chani taught us by example how to make our days meaningful, and enjoying life b'simcha, teaching us how to be a good person, bringing chesed to others. Shavuot was Chani's last Chag last year that she was able to enjoy, and it unfortunately started the difficult last few days of her short but beautiful life. Just days after last year's Shavuos, Chani passed away. This year Shavuos is a good opportunity as we ready ourselves for Matan Torah, to learn in memory of Chani. Feel free to forward this to your friends or organize a Parent-Child Learning in your community or Beit Knesset. If you are interested in joining the learning, please click here and sign up for any number of Pirkei Avot that you will learn with your child/parent. More than one person can sign up for a particular Mishna. If you are not in the position to learn with your parent/child, please feel free to sign up to learn on your own or with someone else. We have attached some sources, questions and ideas that might help you in learning the Pirkei Avot with your child (may be more or less appropriate depending on the age).
Please keep in mind that your learning is in memory of Chana Liora bat Shlomo Moshe Daniel. Chani taught us to appreciate every moment in life, and to look out for those around us. She brought her smile and simcha to us and to people who needed a lift. On a much smaller scale than last year's Shabbat Chesed, take on one small thing on the Yahrziet, June 19th, 12th of Sivan, on what we are calling Chani Chesed Day. The idea is to choose something that does not necessarily necessitate a lot of preparation, energy or planning. Wake up on the morning of Chani's Yahrzeit and decide to do something good for someone. Do something to make a difference. Look out for someone in need. Make someone smile. Please check this list of potential ideas to consider and to choose from. Chani's yahrzeit (June 19th) happens to fall out on Father's Day. If you are going out with your Dad for brunch on Father's Day, maybe plan to go together after brunch and do a Chesed together, or to learn a mishna in Pirkei Avot together. If this date does not work out for you, please feel free to take on a Chesed on another day. Special thanks to Daniel Rothner and Aryvut for helping develop this list. Please keep in mind that your chesed is in memory of Chana Liora bat Shlomo Moshe Daniel.
